Researchers and professionals of management explore the edges of knowledge regarding industrial collaboration as a social activity, and thus a complex phenomenon. Their studies demonstrate that none of the current approaches are dominant, and indicate that scholars should integrate some of the theories. An acceptance emerges that the resolution will lie somewhere between a transaction cost, an agency issue, and an evolutionary and resource-based view, and will integrate both incentives and cognitive issues.
