Kathasaritsagara is the crown jewel of Sanskrit narrative literature. It was composed by Somdev in Kashmir for the amusement of Suryamati, the daughter of the king of Trigarta or Kullu Kangra, the queen of King Anant of Kashmir, between 1063 AD and 1082 AD.
